Hi!
I'm thinging of building an ice rod for lakers/bog trout and walleye/pike etc. The Batson .385X.105X72 blank seems to be the most popular blank for this application? Does ice rods on this blank suit well for a JawJacker and if they do, how long rods can I use with this blank for the jawJacker? 36" or will even 40-45" rods work? Mattias,
The Jaw Jacker is an automatic hook setter for ice fishing with an unattended rod. [www.youtube.com] In a word, if the ice rod is long enough the jaw jacker will work pretty well. The blank in question - is a perfect heavier action rod for catching big fish through the ice, - but after you are past the first 24 inches of that blank - the rod stiffens up significantly. So, if fishing withe the jacker device, you will not have the pronounced bend that you get with a softer tipped more moderate action rod - but if you are fishing with 45-50 inch rods, you will have enough flex to have the jacker work well for you. I personally would not use the jacker if using this blank in a 36 inch or shorter length. Good luck Re: Batson .385X.105X72 and jawjacker ice rod

That blank takes a 7 tube tip. I think it may be too stiff for that application. Hopefully Roger will chime in. Re: Batson .385X.105X72 and jawjacker ice rod

The rod will bend but not a lot. If you need a lot of tip movement to set the hook, it likely won't happen.
Good luck Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
