EVA grip is over-reamed

Hello, I am new to this and working on my first rod with an EVA grip. The grip came to me over-reamed. Can I build up the blank with masking tape like I would for the handle seat ? thanks

Of course.
It will be just fine.

When I make a masking tape arbor I leave a 1/16th inch slit between the rows of masking tape.
Then when the grip is glued down, epoxy is put in the slits so that you have bands of epoxy that extend all of the way to the blank to insure a permanent solid gluing job.

Good luck

Implied in Roger's statement is that for EVA, being more compliant than reel seats or other rigid components, should have its length completely supported. You can also use, if the dimensions are suitable, reel seat shims completely supporting the EVA.

Michael

You did not mention how "over reamed" it is. If it is not too sloppy you could build up the blank with epoxy or rod bond instead of tape. Apply it as though you were putting a finish over thread wrap.Apply enough coats to make the grip a snug fit.

Good Luck.

I use dry wall tape to build up the blank. It is very light and the mesh allows the epoxy to completely penetrate to the blank giving a very strong bond.

Spiral some E sized thread or small diameter cord up the blank. Apply epoxy. "Screw: the EVA down over it. Nothing to come loose. Nothing to be affected by moisture. Greatly preferable to masking tape.

The drywall tape recommendation is a good one. It's more permanent than masking tape.

But basically anything that shims it with epoxy will work. I really like the fiberglass open mesh of the drywall tape.

It all depends on how much bigger the hole is , but I do like the ides of cord as as "" FILLER "" I do like that idea will try it next time to see how it goes , don't do many rods now
but who knows I could get a second wind , time will tell. I will put the cord an epoxy on first an after it gets hard , I will fine tune
