I bought my threads in the late seventys to match Hmg blanks. I'm looking for modern tech graphite in those same brown finishes smooth and translucent, visible fibers...Moderately priced freshwater 2 pc fly and up to 6'6 casting and spinning starting with a 5' to 5.5' Ul.I was wondering which brands you guys would recommend. Or do I put it all back in storage in protest over mint green rod blanks.

some of the suppliers have crossed the Gluebrod numbers to there colors, " Mudhole" is one , an some of the suppliers still has some thread left , you have to check around
for the colors you want

You might have to paint it or get it painted check this site for the type of paint that works the best , it was covered a couple of mth. back , from a spray can to a auto body shop,
your decision , good luck ,

If memory serves me right they were a dark honey brown clear coat with gold insignia and lettering had slip over ferules and you could see the wrap of the fibers through the clear coat.
your best bet to match it would be an auto body paint supplier to get the color you would need clear yellow and clear brown mixed what amounts I couldn't venture a guess with the new advances in auto paint being 99.99% of it is clear coat color
what you want is a clear coat with yellow and green dye added no pigment

Go to a flea market and yard sales. Those rods were very popular. You'll run across some sooner or later.
You may have to get an old Fenwick catalog, find the rods you want, and then search for the on @#$%&.

Perhaps you could get the folks at Rodgeeks to work something up for you. They have copper and burnt orange in metallic...you're earthtone threads would probably work well. They also have brick red, maroon, dark green, blues, etc.

CTS has a "honey brown" that is gorgeous and close to the HMG, but no visible fibers.

Centified Pro, IM700, and the Esprit blanks from Lamiglas all were various browns at sometime, the Esprit were rootbeer, the others lighter, all see thru. Loomis mohogany in GL3, the Sevier Tiger Eye blanks, but you'll have to dig for them, I have a few Lamiglas around but you didn't say specifically what you're looking for.
The Angler's Workshop IM6 blanks built by Talon were rootbeer brown last I used one. Talon fly blanks were brown last I used one.
