Spinning blank suggestion

Hi all,

On my second build and want to explore blanks a bit. I’m looking for suggestions for a 7’6” blank - 8-17lb weight that I will match with either a 4000 or 5000 reel. Primary use is the false albie run in New England and mahi fishing While I always look for a good deal $$$ are not the primary driver. I typically prefer a fast taper.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Hello Cutter.

I know it sounds a little weird but I like to use Rainshadow HS9001-M for the 5-10# Mahi-Mahi, I use small live baits like baby squid or small pin fish, or even small cigar minnows with a nose hook and 2 #6-3X trebles, 1 sliding (wire-nose hook-wire-slider treble- tied treble).

Makes for a good fight with 15# braid.

How big are your average Little Tunny (False Albacore) up there, ours in NC run from about 3#-30# depending time of year and how far off the beach or near reefs.

Tight Wraps & Tighter Lines.

Bob,

New Bern, NC.

Just picked up the new Rod Geeks XC 730 blank at the expo. Haven’t had a chance to build it up yet but I bet it would work well. Fast action with lots of power. Could be extended 3 more inches pretty easily.

Would take the Batson rod to the flats also, they work great inshore. Very versatile.

I am going to try out the Rainshadow 9001m. Plan to use the KR fuji guides with Fuji's suggested 25H, 12H, 8M, 7L reduction train. Did I get this right? Any suggests on the running guides? I use approx. 30lb braid with a short 20-30 flouro leader.

Thanks in advance

With that reduction train you could use any size runner you wish, from size 7 to 4.5. Remember the KL7L will be used as your choke guide. I think I would use KB/KT5 as runners. if you think they are too small then go with either a size 5.5 or 6. The size 5 should pass most leader to braid knots without a problem. Just go with what you feel you are comfortable using. Another faster choking option for the reduction train would be KL25H, KL12H, and KL6M to KB/KT 5.5 or 5 runners. Both will work well. If you have never used a KR concept setup before, I think you will be pleasantly surprised how well it performs.
