Any of you guys and gals ever use high density decoy cork for handles. I have been having some issues getting the correct handles fro the bigger Musky rods I have been putting together recently.

What diameter cork do you need? PacBay has a 15 inch, 1.28" dia. Angler"s Workshop has a 19" grip, 1.15" dia. they also have a large dia. 11" grip that makes a 13 inch grip almost with their big butt cap designed for the cork.

Yes, it works great. Its the lighter colored very high density cork very similar to yoga blocks. I also have the 9/10 density dark decoy cork which I have not used. Its much more porous. I do have an old photo in the photo section showing rods I built for my grandkids using decoy cork as the predominant cork. The cork appears a little darker because I also use tru oil on all my grips

These rods are for my wife and I. Im going with a split grip and I like my butts to be thicker in the 1 3/4 to 2" range and the front grip thicker as well. These blanks are the 9' St. Croix Legend Elites so its always fight between ergonomics and weight for those 12-14 hrs days of casting. I bought a 4 1/2x24x36 block. Alot of cheap handles in there and if it didn't work I can always try my hand at carving some decoys.
