Closed Cross Wrap

I'm pretty much a newbie when it comes to butt wraps. I've only done chevron and diamond wraps, both open, and was thinking about maybe stepping my game up a bit. What's the basic principle behind creating a closed cross wrap as opposed to an open wrap when using the same pattern?

All the areas showing the bare blank are covered over with thread by continuing the pattern until none of the blank is left uncovered.

Yeah. I just discovered taper offset spacing. I think I'm good now. Thanks.

Unless you have a ton of taper in that area, you shouldn't need the TOS. I've done hundreds of closed wraps and never bothered with it. You just burnish the threads nearer the butt to spread them a bit more and compact those nearer the tip to get them to fit. They'll go.

Hmmm. That's a great point. Thanks, Tom.
