Marbling/sanding epoxy

So I recently built my first two rods and they turned out pretty well. I had marbled various sections of the rods and on some of the larger sections of marbling are still not perfectly smooth as I would like even after a few additional coats of epoxy. I am able to wet sand these areas and work up to a high enough grit where I will not loose the luster of the epoxy? Or do I have to sand these sections and then apply another coat of epoxy?
Thanks for any advice it is much appreciated! Re: Marbling/sanding epoxy

Have not messed up marbling finish - yet - but have messed up more than my share of inscription finish. To correct, I sanded the "hills", applied finish, then repeated the process as needed. You will essentially be removing the hill tops while filling in the valleys. Expect the epoxy hills you sand to appear milk white while the valleys remain clear. Don't panic as the hill tops will clear when a new coat of finish is applied. Clean the epoxy dust from sanding using compressed air then painters tape. Re: Marbling/sanding epoxy

Is there a certain grit that you guys would start/finish with? Re: Marbling/sanding epoxy

I start with 320. If it is too fine or too coarse, I will adjust accordingly. Re: Marbling/sanding epoxy

Even 220 will work, just use light pressure on the block. You might play it safe and put on a third coat before sanding. Once you start, it's easy to see the highs and lows. Re: Marbling/sanding epoxy

Like Grant Says even a 220 grit will work as the new epoxy will fill in any ruff scratches just be sure to clean and wipe your job down before putting on the new epoxy and all will be good. Glenn McMurrian Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
