I just received a spool of nylon silke thread and tied up a test piece and the epoxy separated immediately. There is either wax or some other contaminant
. Called the seller and claimed they don't have a problem. Any suggestions Re: nylon silke thread

Sellers can make any claim they wish to sell their product. Sometimes it is an outright lie. Sometimes there is more information that is required. Perhaps you could inquire of the seller what their procedure is to achieve your desired results. Their desired results may be totally different from the results you wish to see. I am not sure who your supplier was, or what their intended outcome is. The products that they use to achieve their results could be vastly different from the ones you are using. As a rod builder I know what your desired results are. Re: nylon silke thread

I think you are talking about Sulky embroidery thread, which is similar to Madeira thread. Both are treated with a silicone lubricant which allows them to be used in high speed embroidery machines. The lubricant Is not compatible with epoxy finishes and causes fisheyes (your epoxy separation). In order to prevent fisheyes a few coats of color preserver is required.

I am familiar with the sulky thread and no I didn't use it. On a bidding site there a number of sites offering nylon silke rod wrapping thread. I liked the finish on thread, has a sheen to it. One I had no problem with and 2others I did
When I saw the word encapuslate a light bulb turned on. I used a couple of coats of ncp and a lite coat of 5 minute epoxy and solved the problem. Bottom line though for me is know where and who you are buying from. Thanks for the input. Re: nylon silke thread

And 5 minute epoxy for thread finish? I've had to use the flexcoat stuff for emergency repairs, same day use, but I would think that it's way to thick to use on silk thread. Can't find any info on Silke thread? Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
