Looking for suggestions for a 9' 9wt graphite fly rod blank. This will be my first saltwater build and it is intended primarily for inshore fishing in the Northeast for stripers, blues, albies...maybe pike, musky too. Your thoughts, suggestions are appreciated. Re: Which blank?

Last two heavier rod builds were both TFOs, a Pro Series !! and a TiCr X. The Pro II is OK. The TiCr X is a super rod to cast something big and ugly then bring something big to the boat. Re: Which blank?

Thanks for the help guys. I have been thinking about a TFO Mangrove blank, among others but not sold yet on anything.
Don, thanks I'll check out the ATC Bushido blanks. I'm in no hurry as this will be a winter project for me. I appreciate your continued advice and blank suggestions. Re: Which blank?

I've built several TFO blanks and the mangrove is my favorite followed by the now discontinued Axiom. I recently built a bushido 9wt and I have to say its a high quality blank at a very good price. Both blanks work great for northeast salt. Good luck. Re: Which blank?

Take a look at PacBay Quickline blanks. I've built two now and im very impressed. I built a 9' 9wt for cape cod stripers this year. Caught a bunch of fish on it back in June. Had wind everyday but this rod performed great. Mostly topwater with a 10wt floating line. Mark Re: Which blank?

Pac Bay Quickline is a great performance blank, and excellent value. Thanks - Marc Keep it simple - that's all I can handle! Re: Which blank?

Questions for folks who have 9' 9wt rods built on the Pac bay Quickline blank...
What line do you like? Are you overlining w/ a #10 or is it a true #9 (i.e. 230-250 grain line)? Switching gears, a build question. I've built freshwater fly rods and prefer snakes on them. Here I am considering two approaches concerning guides. 1. Strippers: 1#16, 1#12, running guides Fuji k-series 1 #10, 7 #8 guides Or 2. Strippers as above + REC HSNX snakes #5, #4, and 6 #3 guides. Option 1 costs 2x option 2. Does that yield casting/fishing performance 2x better? Are Fuji's tougher? will they hold up in the salt 2x longer? Re: Which blank?

Quickline is a great fly blank if you want a faster rather than traditional action. They are light, beautiful in gloss black, and some of the sponsors offer them for a VERY reasonable price. Do some looking, you will be surprised. Re: Which blank?

Mike, thanks for your feedback on these blanks. Do you fish a Quickline? If so, which one? I'm considering a 9'9wt for a striper/albie build. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 08/15/2016 06:56PM by patrick crisci. Re: Which blank?

9' 9 wt. Is a good striper/ albie rod. I haven't used a quick line but my other 9wt blanks work great. Good luck. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
