A china pen works great. For reel seats and butt sections a regular pencil will do since it will be covered up anyway.

I use a White Out pen to mark the dots on butt wraps and such. Cleans up with a wipe of denatured. If going to be used under guide wraps where Nylon is being used - no goo because the thread will become transparent on a black black and where the white mark is the color will stay.

Eric: I use a "Pentel White 100W S". It has a very fine point. I got it at an office supply store. John

The Pentel Gel ball point pens work pretty well also, they come in several colors, I like the gold. silver and white.
