As I have become totally immersed in my new found love for rod-building beyond the point of addiction, I have yet to find, for lack of a better term, a source for "Rod Recipes" in any searches. I'm wondering if such a resource even exists and if so, can someone point me in the right direction? Let's say I have a particular application. Maybe I want to jig for crappie, surf for flounder, catch some spots from the pier, etc. It would be great to have a resource that would offer suggestions for blank/component recipes. Does such a resource even exist or is this just wishful thinking on my part and one must perform some research for each (not that it would be a bad thing and just considered part of the journey)? RodMaker Magazine is filled with technique specific "recipes" from all-around topics such as "stand up rods," "surf rods" and similar, and then more specific type rods often used for a particular species of fish.
Beyond that, some of the blank manufacturers may have some "recipes" and more than a few have listed them, component for component, on this website over the years. Do a search for a specific type of rod and include "all dates" and see what comes up. .............. Re: Rod Recipes

The Batson site has a forum for "rod recipes" for most of their blanks. Even if you are using a blank from another supplier, if you know how it compares to one of theirs, you can still use them as a guide. Re: Rod Recipes

Frank,
In addition to the above mentioned RM magazine and Baton, Mud Hole has their blanks broken down first (in the catalog) to type of blank and then a chart as to technique specific for each blank series to narrow down the learning curve even more. Order a MH catalog you will be glad you did. Buzz Re: Rod Recipes

The resources mentioned are good especially for rod types you're unfamiliar with. But don't be afraid to experiment or deviate from the "recipe". Eventually you'll find what works for you which is the ultimate in custom. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
