A few years back I built a 12' 4 piece 2-3 wt fly rod using components I purchased from The Angler's Roost including the blanks. There was some time between this rod build and two or three others that I built, so--I wasn't quite "on my game" with this rod. Structurally the rod is strong and fun to cast and otherwise fish, but I might have done better with the Threadmaster application on a few of the wraps. Since this is a rod for my personal use it's no big deal, but for one blemish. I don't know how it happened, but on the first guide wrap there is a large bumpy spot on top of the Threadmaster finish. I carefully sanded this spot to the point that it conforms well with the rest of the finish using high-number sand papers. However, the clarity of the finish was wrecked by this sanding process. Is there a way to fix this short of redoing the entire tie on this guide? Re: Threadmaster repair

Try stuffing up the rest of the epoxy on that wrap and apply another coat of finish. It should cover it without any issue and you'll never know you had a bo bo there before. I have done the same to a couple of rods where a customer got "scratches" in the finish from a fall and I was able to sand them out without getting into the thread and just applied another light coat of finish. Patric,
Bill is correct. The new coat of TM will be glossy and cover dull area. Just be sure not to abraid thread under TM. very easy to do. Get some jewelry buffing grits. They come in kits from 600 - 1500 I think. Much less chance of nicking the thread. BTW - I am interested in the make, model of the blank and what line you use - grains. Herb Re: Threadmaster repair

Herb,
As best I recall I purchased everything for this rod build, except the guides, from The Anglers' Roost, a sponsor of this site. The blanks are UHM12 (ultra-high modulus) 2-3 wt, 4 pc. These blanks are still available on the site for about $80.00. I did not buy a "kit" for this rod, but wandered through Anglers' Roost web site buying the reel seat, seat insert, cork handle, etc.. Prices are very reasonable and customer service is excellent. This rod built up to something weighing like a 2-3, but seems much stronger and more substantial than other rods of that weight that I have tried in the past. A 4wt, or even a 5wt (believe it or not) floating line works well on this rod. A weight forward line is okay, but I've found that a double taper works better. Hope this helps. Re: Threadmaster repair
