Hello fellas , I am in the process of purchasing the components for a new wrapper, This will be put together this together with Individual components versus buying a package deal so as to get what I want. I will be using the Upgraded alp's chuck with a fitted DC drive. As Roger had outlined for us in the past . I need your thoughts on the {rod support stands} spring or slide adjustment? I thinking slide may be better? Or a mix of the 2 Your + - thoughts would be appreciated, Also the thread carriage, the new 2 spool style upgraded with opposing magnets vs the standard springs? Also for the base, Does anyone know of a aluminum base with thread carriage tracks on the front and rear? So I can position the carriage in the rear and run the thread under the rod to a front bearing mounted eyelet then up to the rod, {If I so chose to do so later down the road to reduce the clutter in front of the wrapper} I'd rather buy once, And have it there If available. Thanks again! Jaa Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 03/13/2016 05:44PM by Jay Dubay. Re: ALPS rod support stands, Spring, or slide, preference? And base with 2 thread carriage tracks front and rear?

I have an Alps wrapper with the upgrade chuck, and it has been a fine piece of gear for me. Get the slide stands, not the spring type. The spring type stand will not work except in the first position or two up from the chuck. They will not grip the blank at smaller diameters. When you get within 30" or so from the tip, the upper roller does not even touch the blank. It's also fairly easy to pop the blank loose from the spring roller. I bought mine with two spring stands and three slide stands. I just bough two slide stands to replace the spring stands. I'll be using the springs stands to make an extra drying station.
I got the thread carriage with he sewing machine tension device. I added an extra horizontal spool holder with coil spring/ wingnut tension device. Thinking about getting the two spool carriage as well. Don't know of a dual track base section for this wrapper. Never seen one anywhere for sale. It's an interesting idea though. Thanks Gary, I had that feeling about the spring stands, Thanks so much, So far the only base I have found with 2 thread carriage tracks is the CRB base but it is in 3 pcs and I have a feeling the first assembly joint will fall right in the middle of my butt wrap area causing a bump in the travel area. So hopefully others will chime in with Ideas maybe? T-track screwed to the bench on back side? I did find a nice cheap mod for the thread carriage here for 4 or more spools. Thanks Again.
