swimbait blank question

Hi all.. just finished up a rainshadow ISWB 945. 7'10" 2-6oz RX7 build and am very happy with the results, however the rod seems a little heavier duty than I anticipated and is much more of a "brute" than my buddies Okuma factory 7'11" MH guide select 3/4-3oz stick.. I will def be hanging on to It as It should be great for bigger baits.. my question.. what would be some blanks to consider to go a little lighter? looking for 7'10" to 8'.. 3/4-4oz.. thanks for any input.. Ed

That Rainshadow is a great blank with a lot of power, ideal for larger swimbaits like you mentioned. We have some Castaway MB805 that quite a few of our customers have built as SwimBait rods and absolutely love them! [www.getbitoutdoors.com]
I don't know if i'd throw 4 oz with it but it may handle it. Hard to go wrong for $34.95

Actually I am looking to go lighter.. I just built the 945 so I think the 947 would be heavier, no? Thanks Ed

I have a American Tackle Bushido SWB710/12-25 coming in the mail as we speak. Rated for 3/4-3 ounce Mod-Fast Heavy. This should handle anything that Michigan can throw at it..

Just got the phenix m1 heavy, it's gonna be a beast. Saw someone mentioned the castaway mb 805. Any opinions?

Hi Jason, we've sold quite a few of the MB805's to builders making them for swimbaits specifically. Feel free to give me a call, I'm happy to describe the action etc.. to you. We still have a few left but unfortunately when these are gone they aren't making any more.

There is no correlation between the SWB series you have and the SW saltwater blank I mentioned. The calfishing site has a print and video review of the blank I mentioned. Mudhole has pricing on the Bushido blank.

I did a swimbait rod on a n MHX surfcasting blank for a client last year and he absolutely loves it. Long casting of big baits was his primary concern.
