There is absolutely no reason to thin it, but if you must, then use acetone. Acetone is very volitile and will leave the mix quickly rather than become trapped in it.

If you need an easier working mix, briefly heat the individual parts before mixing. If you want a thinner coating, just put on less and brush it out.

I agree with Tom. I don't like to thin any finish, much less light. If you want a thinner finnish, you may want to try LS Supreme.

I agree with Tom and Bolt. If you mst thin, Use 4 drops from a eye droper to 1oz. of mix. Aceton well retared drying time. If you add to much aceton the mix well never cure, So becareful useing aceton. There is one other way you can use heat from a butan torch. Put your hand by the rod and when you feel the heat without burning your hand that is the right distace from the rod. You must keep the torch moveing or you well flash of the finish and have a big mess. as you heat the finish you brush off the excess.

I am new, an amateur, at rod building and have the same problem of keeping my flex coat as thin as I like. The beer can method, works for me. After removing the beer, by whatever means you deem necessary, rinse out the can, turn the can upside down and wash the bottom cupped out portion of the can with acetone, now turn the can over and fill with very hot water (perhaps boiling), place a cup over the can and while holding the cup tight to the can, once again turn the can over, most of the water will remain in the can and will keep the cupped out portion of the can hot, now mix your flex coat in the cupped out portion keeping it warm and thin.
I love this site!!!!

Heat will speed up the cure time of the finish. This may be why you are not able to keep it as thin as you like. Yes, it will reduce the viscosity at first, but after that you will have a more rapid set-up and thickening.

I guess this is why I can only do half of the rod with one mixture. Thanks
