A signmaker with a print cut vinyl printer should be able to make a small laminated vinyl decal which woud work fine, use cast vinyl if you can. Re: photograph on rod

There is a Video of how to place a Photo under a White silk wrap, when finish applied the thread all but disappears if you could print the photo on Clear non gloss Avery label stock and spray it with fixative the wrap with silk
I am going strictly by memory here so you need to experiment a little Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/30/2016 02:13PM by Barry Thomas Sr. Re: photograph on rod

What you might do is scan the image and then print it on some of the Papillo decal paper. No doubt, you could also use some type of adhesive, 3M 77 comes to mind, to stick the actual photo down. But I think I'd print it onto a different media and then use CS or an enamel fixative followed by epoxy.

I've put photos on rods a few times and have used the Papillo decal paper Tom mentioned above. Just make sure to measure the diameter of the blank and size the picture appropriately before printing. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/01/2016 08:48AM by Capt. Craig Freeman. Re: photograph on rod

there was an article in rodmaker a while back about using temporary Tattoo materials for just this. I believe the article was submitted by Don Morse. Chris Richer Iroquois ON Re: photograph on rod

Tom's method works well for me, I use the Papillio matte vinyl media because it prints well and is super compliant, so adhesion is not a problem if you really rub it down hard with your thread tool (use the decal backing to isolate the decal from the tool). I use the Papillio fixative, also, if I have it. But others fixatives, UV and fast dry on the label, will work. I put a small bead of CP on the edges of the applied decal to be sure the epoxy doesn't attack the edge. You may have to tweek your printer settings, and print at max quality. If you are not using OEM ink cartridges then all bets are off for color fidelity after sun exposure. Even with OEM, it's not 100% reliable.
If in doubt, need more, just ask. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
