Just wondering - what are your favorite M style spinning guide layouts for med-lite and medium spinning rods? With a size 30 Pfleuger or 2500 Shimano, mix of mono and braid for lines. Thanks - Marc Keep it simple - that's all I can handle! Re: M style spinning guide layouts

I have recently been using the minima 4 guides based on the good reviews I have read in this forum; and so far have been pleasantly surprised with their performance. For spinning rods I like the minima 4 M guides as stripper and transition guides for the reduction train and the F guides as runners. This is similar to the Fuji KR setup. If you are using mono I would opt for a 25 or 20 stripper using only braid you can go 20 or 16. The size 25M would be followed by a size 12 M followed by either a size 6M or 7 M. Using a size 20 M follow with a size 10M followed by size 6M. The runners can vary depending on what you like from size 6F to size 3 F. I like the size 4F as runners, they pass leader knots very well. As far as guide lay out, the Anglers resource Kr GPS will give you a very good starting point for the reduction train and can be refined from there with stress testing for runner placement and test casting for final tweaking. Hope this helps.

Norman, If you start with a 16 do you still follow it with a 10 and a 6? Thanks, Lynn Re: M style spinning guide layouts

With a 16 I follow with either a 10 or an 8, followed by a 6 or 5, this depends on the action of the rod and reel used; lighter smaller. My preference is 16, 8, & 5 with a 1000 series reel. Runners can be 5, 4, or 3 depending on your preference; i use 4s mostly because like to use leaders. These minima4 M & F set ups cast extremely well and feel very light in the hand. The very first rod I used minimas on was an old 6.5' UL that had heavier old style ceramic guides. This rod never felt right so I stripped it down and redid with the minima system outlined above. The difference was like day vs night. The use of these guides changed the whole complexion of that rod giving it a lighter, crisper and more responsive feel and it casted much better with less effort. I should mention that I still use and like the fuji kr guides. However, on light to medium rods the minima guides are hard to beat for both the money and the performance. Right now its hard for me to comment on long term durability; time will tell. Hope this helps.

Thanks Norm, I'm a died in the wool Fuji man, but have been branching out in recent years due to info available on great forums such as this. Gotta try different stuff now and then to learn anything. Lynn Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
