Old Sage Rod Question

Greetings...

This isn't exactly about rod building, but I was hoping someone could help me out with something I just noticed. My dad recently had a stroke and his wife asked me to find homes for his equipment. One of them is a Sage Graphite II RP 9'6 5 wt. It's a factory rod he bought at Pacific Iron Works in Ventura and never fished (still has price tag on seat- $270.00). Additionally, all guide wraps have tan trim bands and it has the original tube and sock.

What caught my eye was something written on the blank on the opposite side of the blank from the standard "Sage" and rod specs. Hand written in black, barely noticeable unless in the light, is this number: E7135

I think this rod is from the early/mid eighties, which is just about the time I started fly fishing. So, my knowledge of their rods from that era is limited and I don't know if this number is something they all had or if it's unique. If unique, I'm curious what it designates.

Any help or pointing me to someone who could answer would be very appreciated. Thanks.

Steve

Sage always inks a serial # in that location on rods.
You can contact them and find out all you want re that rod.
