Installing arbors - which end of seat?

When gluing arbors in to a spinning seat, do you like to install them from the end with the fixed hood, or from the end with the threads - and why?

Marc

On occasion I found some reel seats have one end ever so slightly larger than the other end. When that happens I install the arbores from the loose end, no special rational but that is what I do.

I've only built two spinning rods, and used foam arbors for both reel seats. I slid them in from the fixed hood side of the reel seat based on my thinking that excess epoxy build up would be easier to clean from the hood than it would be from the threads.

Marc,
Install them from either end. It makes no difference.

I agree with Roger but if you insert from the thread end you should warp the threads in masking tape to prevent epoxy from getting on them. Then immediately wipe with DNA when finished.

I usually install from the threaded end, and done properly can do it with little to no clean-up needed using Flex Coat glue, but at times a little clean-up is needed.

Thanks for the input all.

Thanks - Marc

Keep it simple - that's all I can handle!

Put a piece of tape around the ends Helps to clean up easier

I actually disagree with putting tape on the reel seat when installing arbors.

Yes, it may help from some epoxy from getting on the seat, but then you need to remove the glue covered tape from the seat to clean the seat before the epoxy hardens.

I keep several old tooth brushes handy and whenever doing any sort of gluing, always have them handy. Dip the tooth brush in the DNA and every thing cleans up very quickly and very well as long as you do it before the glue begins to set up.

Be safe

Painters tape the blue stuff Less glue I use rod bond so I have a while to clean Which should be right away
