I lost my other computer with all my data - I am starting over

I am asked to build a rod on "the MHX Metallic copper Med heavy baitcaster". The MHX MB783 Mag Bass Rod Blank, Metallic Copper fits that description.
I will be using a full length cork handle per client instruction
QUESTION: How far from blank butt end to the reel seat??

Sinse this is for some one else have him hold it and tell you or if not Have him hold a rod he has and then measure from butt to end of reel seat

That will depend on on person you are building the rod for. Some people like a longer handle some like it shorter it is a matter of personal taste. On a 78 inch rod the handle can range from 6 - 11 inches. However a more common range would be 8 -10 inches.

I would recommend staying in the 8" to 9" range, no more than that, on a 6'-6" rod. Slip the reel seat on the rod and tape it into place and check how it feels to you. If the customer has shorter arm you might even go to 7" to 7 1/2". If you can ask your customer to stop by and try it out for himself. IMHO I am thinking 8 1/2" to the rear of the reel seat, but if you can ask your customer to try it with reel seat taped on temporarily.

The rod is to be a graduation present from a well known southern university. As best as I can, I am grilling "DAD" to get some of the information I need.

Another option is to look at the web site high end rod companies like ST Croix. They show the handle measurements for each series.

I measured 3 of my 6'6" factory rods ...... 2 Shimanos, 1 G Loomis. All three have full rear grips that measure 8 3/4" from the end of the butt to the back of the reel seat. I find that length to be very comfortable, regardless of the presentation I'm using. It's long enough for two handed casting, and short enough not to be any trouble when pitching or flipping.

At 5' 8", I'm a little shorter than average height for a male, and I don't have overly long arms. Personally I'd stay in the 8" - 9" range that has been suggested. Anything much shorter than that may cause the rod to feel overly tip heavy, and a bit sluggish for certain types of presentations such as working a jerkbait, or walking topwater bait.

Anything much longer than that could present body and clothing clearance problems with techniques like flipping and pitching.

I prefer a 10 inch rear grip on all 7' + casting rods. I Just built an MHX HM-MB874 and the 10 inch is perfect (for me). I used the Winn 3 1/2 inch rear and 2 1/2 inch Butt. Very nice
