tip tops size

I have tips that I got that I don't know what type of rod they would be used on some have 20mm rings and 7/64 tube ,16mm ring and 8/64 tube they are carboloy. most tip sold today that I have seen in catalogs the tip to ring are close in size . Re: tip tops size

Back in the 60s and 70s they were often used for making specialized west coast marlin rods. The rod was typically built using oversized guides,usually with size 20 rings and tips with similar large rings. The use of the oversized rings was because these rods were used to throw live mackerel on 15 foot leaders,generally using a suitable snap swivel. The marlin,and swordfish were typically cast to while on the surface, sunning or swimming downswell.
I would surmise that many surfcasters useing shock leaders were doing the same thing. Re: tip tops size

chuck thank you for your reply I just learned something new today and I have a blind fishing buddy and the problem he has is winding the snap swivel up into the tip ring and knocking them out.. You gave me a great use for these tips. thank you Re: tip tops size
