Greetings,
Can anyone who has experience with Pro Kote finish give their opinion? What have you noticed in reference to ease of use, yellowing, pot life, application of heat, etc, etc. Also the same for the Pro Paste. I have tried to get the company to reply but had no luck. I will take emails if needed. Thanks for your time.

Pat Barnard

Todd,
No issues. Just wanted to know shelf life and handling properties. Have not used it before, just wanting some opinions. Thanks for the reply.

I have not tried Pro Paste, but have a lot of experience with Pro Kote. It appears to me that it is very clear, stays clear well, but it does take a long time to cure. Be prepared to let it cure all night, and in the morning it may still be a little sticky. Given this characteristic, do not try to estimate the proportions, use syringes to get it exactly right. I think it is a little softer than Flex Coat, but I don't have any real data, just my observations/estimates.

I'm with Michael.
Be very precise with proportion and mix at leeast 3mm (4mm is safer).
Very clear and softer than others.
Soak thread very well.
Didn't like flaming (but it's not necessary as it is bubble free).
Take time to dry but you have a long pot live (at least half on an hour).
Very Nice product.

Revue based on the regular (medium but for me it's a lite).
The High build dry faster and harder but pot Life is shorter (Nice product too).

Pro paste shelf life = at least 6 months
Pro-kote shelf life = I bought a gallon 8 months ago and the remainder (a quart or so) is still fine

The Pro paste is a great product. Normally I use the Fast Set because I like to put the butt grip on split grip rods first and let it cure before I do the rest. The biggest difference that I have experienced from other epoxies is that it has a little more working time before setting up which can be very important. However in an hour, shorter time than the others, you can handle it and continue the build.

It is a very smooth texture, easy to apply and will stay where you put it. It is the only brand of paste I use.

Can't help on the finish epoxy I use Flexcoat Ultra V.

For me Pro paste looks like the first LAMAR epoxy paste, but maybe it's not the same product ?

Pat,

The NERBS website used to have some pictures of the samples of the various finishes mixed, poured out onto glass, and set in the sun. The results after just a few months were pretty striking. I don't think the picture is posted anymore for you to look at (though it is floating around im sure), but here's a link to a written summary of the pros and cons which include Pro Kote.

It's at the bottom (last paragraph) at this URL:
