Roger,
Just read your comment in which you mentioned using orthodontic bands to hold guides during set up.
Can I ask what your source for the bands is?

I have been using them for years. I get mine from local orthodontists.
They come in 3.5 oz bags (lots of them) and have been charged as little
as nothing to as high as 1.25 a bag. Local guys carry four sizes - on
small tips double the small ones. When they hear what you are using
them for they get a kick out of it and the price seems to drop. The
shipping would be more than the bands not buying locally.

harry

i get my ortho bands (like 1/4" rubber bands) from a local medical supply store. i get my dentist to order the really tiny colored o-rings that you tear off of "sticks" to use. the dentist gets a kick out of ordering them for fishing rod building.

Roger, I viewed your set up . I assume you made your center rest. What was your source for the parts, if you don't mind my asking. That is one great setup.

The skate board wheels are readily available from many different on line sources including the big @#$%& site.
The metal comes from the local whole sale metal supplier. Most of the metal came from the surplus metal department at the supplier. Very inexpensive.

Thanks much

Where are you located, Roger. If you are near me ,I'd like to use your local supplier. I have an online source, but the shipping costs make the purchase expensive. I just received four 4X6"X 1/8" cold rolled steel plates for $71.00. I'll use your supplier if they are w/in pickup distance; and I'll continue my search here, Portage, MI for a local source. No luck so far.

What are the dimensions of the upper two bars in your setup.

Finally, if you are interested, I might want to purchase a middle rest from you.

Thanks for your time corresponding with me.

Harry,
Unfortunately, I am not close. I am in Minneapolis. Since this is a large city, there are many metal supply shops in the metro area. I generally use two or three of them that I find give me the price and service that i like.

You are right, if you have to ship metal, it is expensive.

Be safe

For what it is worth, Roger helped me design and build a machine specifically for finishing carbon fiber grips. It is really slick and there is nothing else like it on the market. If you got something special you want he can definitely build it for you. I have been very satisfied with it for more than a year now.
