Whoops, need help mounting in lathe

I wasn't thinking the other day and put a pistol cork handle on the blank before wrapping the rod. I guess in the habit becuase usually put rings on and leave the last one off in order to chuck into the lathe. Anyway, I have a Clemens lathe, what's an easy way to put the rod in the lathe so I can wrap the guides? I thought of taking a coat hanger, bending and taping to the side of the handle leaving some off the back to chuck into the lathe. Any better ideas? Thanks

You're on the right track with your coathanger idea. If you take a wood dowel and bore a small hole in the center, put the end of a folded piece of coathanger in there, epoxy it in place and then use the open ends to sandwhich (tape in place) the end of your cork pistol grip, you will have a reuseable tool for mounting any odd ended rods into your lathe.
