Spigot ferrule repair question

Hallo !

I have to repair a blank with a spigot ferrule. The blank is used for continental carp fishing and consists of two pieces.
When you put the two parts together you can see scratches on the outer edge of the tip section (about 10 to 20 mm).
Is it possible to cut the damaged area or is it enough to wind over thread to have sufficient support ?

Thanks for your help.
Greetings from Europe (Austria).

Alex

If you are talking about minor scratches, they are not likely to harm anything. The area from the edge of both the male and female sections should both be wrapped. Get the wrap as close to the edge as possible and make sure it is snug. Make the length of each wrap equal to about one and half to twice the diameter at the ferrule area.

You could shorten the female section, but you have to be careful not to remove too much. Unless the section is worn to the point where it will still seat down on the ferrule the required distance, you stand to reduce the amount of blank to the point where it could fail. Go easy here.

And in case you were wondering, yes, there should be a slight gap when the two sections are joined. This allows for some amount of wear.
