That would be me.
But I just found something important out Right now,I`m 1/2 way thru my 5th flyrod. It`s a Mesier combo Spey [12`6"] Single [9`3" 6wt]. What happened in my learning curve is that I removed the anxiety I can do this by multi-tasking,taking breaks frequently but mainly by recognizing that it is there. In me,anyhow. Up til now,I`ve been so concerned about epoxy drying out on me,for example, that I rushed thru. I let sloppy work go.["get it done before the damn stuff hardens" or "get going so we can go fishing"] and it showed up in the end product. Way too much goop on the guide feet, crappy thread work,mis-aligned guides,etc... Since I buildi for myself only,it only really matters to me. I`m happier this way...maybe I`ll post the final product... Re: For new builders who aren`t "naturals"

I know things turned around for me when I learned to relax and not to rush myself. Re: For new builders who aren`t "naturals"

That was a hard thing for me to learn as well..... S-L-O-W D-O-W-N... my work improved a ton and I feel my time is more valuable. ______________________________________ Super Tight Lines......Don Re: For new builders who aren`t "naturals"

Take your time on the epoxy, but don't fiddle with it. If it starts going off and you're only half way down the rod just stop and mix another batch. It's cheap compared to everything else on the build. Re: For new builders who aren`t "naturals"

Had that experience today with my first split grip. Took a lot more time that it should have, but when I relaxed and started mixing another batch of rod bond everything was peachy. I think most of the problems in my previous builds were due to rushing. I shouldn't be surprised, I'm a biologist by training and know that almost all of my prior field crews' mistakes were due to rushing. Maybe that is a lesson I should be learning....take your time and do it right; there is no rush. Re: For new builders who aren`t "naturals"

OK.If we are going t pursue this-see KAhnemeann [sic] book "Thinking Fast and Thinking Slow" He was the guy who taught the Wall St. boys to more accurately predict the stock trends ND wona Nobel in econ! [hE IS A PSYCHOLOGIST] Anyway, system one vs system 2 is what we`re talking about here. System 1 wants to "get on with it,to @#$%& with the consequences-the fish don`t care [about sloppy builds],etc, etc System 2 is the rational mind;"take your time and build something that you can take pride in,don`t accept slop, etc When I learned about this,it chNGED MY BEHAVIOR,NOT MERELY MY BUILDS BUT A LOT OF PERSONAL THINGS Too. Sorry for yelling, but system 1 won`t let me go over the last sentense and correct it.... Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
