So the inlet groove is facing the wrong gway.
A new mistake for me.I tried to dremel a notch in ut but it is too thick.
I really don`t want to "boil the butt" or cut it off but what else can i do?

Cut off the last ring or two of the handle with the swell, slide the ring off, turn it around and then replace the last two rings with new ones, should be able to shape a swell with a power drill and sand paper, get the shape close, re-glue and finish sanding to smooth in with the rest of the handle. IMHO, minimum woodworking skills needed.

David,
Cut the ring off the reel seat and leave it off.

Carry a roll of electrical tape with you. Any time you want the reel on the rod, tape it in place.

Thousdands of reels are held to rods every day and thousands of fish are caught every day by rods that have reels taped on them.

Be safe

What type of rod? If it is a fly rod, removing the reel seat is not difficult if epoxy was used to adhere it. Boiling the butt in a plastic bag to keep it dry works very well!
