Orvis Silver Label blanks.

Hello all --

I'm wondering if anyone out there has experience with the blanks used in the Silver label series -- likes or dislikes with this particular blank (I've been told that they are the same blank used in the Trident series as well).

I’m looking to build an 8'6'' 4 wt moderate action rod and am considering the Orvis midflex in this category.

Any thoughts or comments would be much appreciated. Also suggestions of other blanks that would match the above description. I'm hoping to stay at around $150 or below on the blank price.

Thanks

-Jeff Connelly

I have used those blanks. They are okay but to be honest I think they are greatly overpriced for what you get. If you want a medium action rod that works great and is priced low, get a St.Croix Avid model. I have to rate it as good or better than the Orvis and it costs about half as much. It also seems to weigh less. Just my opinion.

I cast one of the Orvis Silver Label rods last year and thought it was very nice. Very smooth. But I won't argue with Rick that the Avid is one heck of a nice blank for very little money.
