Be careful!

I just received a message from my brother who was in the hospital.
This afternoon, while working on a machine, someone turned on the machine and the belt sheared off his little finger.

He will recover in a few weeks, but he will be without his finger.

Be careful - always.

Roger

Same thing happened to me. Except the first step in any machinery repair for me is to disable the power source. When the switch was cycled nothing happened. Have a routine and stick to it.

Hope OSHA doesn't read this and deny worker's comp claim due to lack of lockout/tagout procedure.

LO/TO is a must when performing maintenance on machinery. I am glad to hear that your brother will be fine, however it is unfortunate that he will have to live without his finger. In the last year there was 2 families where I live that will be fatherless due to a failure to follow LO/TO procedures. The employee thought the machine was deenergized, but it wasn't and it cost both of them their lives. 2 separate incidents within the same year. Please Please Please take that extra minute and LO/TO.
