Whar is this expensive stuff anyway?
Does it extend the life of the cork? Any alternatives to the $7 per 4oz or whatever it is? Re: Cork Seal?

I use it and i would not build a rod with out it. It keeps the cork for getting all dirty looking and makes fish slime wipe right off. I use Trondak U-40 and its well worth the money! I use Birchwood-Casey Tru Oil, which can be found at most gun stores. I only use it on burl - cork mixed grips to bring out the contrast. I don't use anything on solid cork grips. Re: Cork Seal?

I just started using cork seal on the last two rods I made. I am told it will help keep cork grips clean. We'll see! Re: Cork Seal?

Hi David,
I'm also a fan of the U-40 cork seal. Stops natural cork from getting that grey oxidised look and makes the grips easier to clean plus I like the look it gives cork. Easy to use and clean up. Good product. ESFNEM Col Port Kembla, NSW Australia Re: Cork Seal?

It does help to preserve and protect the cork. As said above, making it much easire to clean the grip. As for the $7.00 cost, the 4oz will probably do 50 grips, that works out to about $.14 cents per grip. Re: Cork Seal?

Have used both U-40 and Tru-oil, prefer Tru-oil, 4 -5 coats, gloss finish, used my rods for five years before the handles needed a little touch up and no filled pits had fallen out. It will darken the cork but it sort of gives the grips a classic wooden look. Re: Cork Seal?

I have also used both Tru-Oil and U-40 Cork Seal. I prefer the look of the Tru-Oil. If it is just for a quck clean up I'll use Cork Seal. David Dosser Coshocton, OH Re: Cork Seal?
