Hi Marnie,
Absolutely. It contains silicon for use in embroidery machines and will give you fisheyes in your finish without it. You can put a few pieces of thread in the finish mix and that will get rid of the fisheyes but the lighter colours will turn translucent without cp. Use a good quality cp. I'm using three coats. Just enough to wet all the thread without excess.

I have wondered if after running Madeira thread through a thread tensioner, a two disc under a spring type, would leave a silicone residue between the discs. Then when using regular nylon it would contaminate the regular nylon. Has this happened to anyone or does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Do it all the time and never even thought of that. Never had a fisheye issue.
