Hello! First attempt at a feather inlay - I'm using CP for the first time ever (U-40 Color Lock) on a silk thread base. Should this be applied by brush without actually touching the wrap (letting the rod "wick" the CP drop off the brush as it rotates), or can it be painted on, as long as any bubbles are popped. Also, how heavy of a coat should be put on? Should the whole wrap be "milky white?" (My first coat will be 50% CP/ 50% distilled H2O mix, second will be full strength.) Appreciate any suggestions! Thanks! Mike Re: Color preserver application

I would apply full strength CP first to the wraps if the feather is going directly on them. Let dry completely, then use your 50/50 mix to "stick" the feather on. Let dry. Then apply second coat of full strength CP to entire segment. When applying CP I completely saturate the threads, meaning having it almost dripping off. Then after I have done the section, I go back and take off the excess with the brush till there is none visible. I believe this gets a great saturation of the threads. Re: Color preserver application

Could you please tell me where to buy the beautiful feathers that are used for the feather inlay. I saw them in the latest issue of the magazine? Thank you Re: Color preserver application

If you will look a bit further down this board, you will find a post from Bob Meiser on where he buys his feathers. ........................... Re: Color preserver application
