Does anyone know of a source for size "B" thread that a plain old fisherman rodbuilder can buy. I know Merrick carries it but I can't buy from them since I'm not "in business". I think the only color they carry it in is black.I'd like a better selection than that but black will do if thats all I can find. Also has anyone ever wrapped a rod with mono line, or a combination of mono and "normal" thread? I'd think that one could get some unique visual effects if it was done right. Question is how would the mono react to the a finish like U-40's stuff or Flexcoat or Crystal Coat, and what kind of effect would it have on the blank what with memory and tension? Just thought I'd ask, hoping someone has some experience with this. Warren Re: Wrapping thread and mono

Size B thread is hard to come by no matter if you are in the business or not. The color selection is limited and most places just don't carry it. Wish I could help but just don't know of anywhere that carries it. I have used mono for wrapping. I really don't think it works very well. Flex Coat will coat it though. It's probably just something somebody needs to experiment with. Re: Wrapping thread and mono

Try flurocarbon line (green tint) on a green St. Croix blank. Looks kind of cool. Don't know about long term, but woudl assume as long as the finish made a good bond with the blank and guide it will be OK. They make flourocarbon lines in various colors. I have seen browns, greens, blues, etc. To see what it would look like, wrap a guide and I know this sounds disgusting, take a big ole dolup of saliva and put on it. It gives the same effect as applying finish. Will give you the depth and blending effects your finish will give you. Now obviously do not use that wrap for finishing, you will need remove, clean guide and blank well before rewrapping an applying finish. Re: Wrapping thread and mono

I have heard that some mono has silicon, or some other chemical on it to get it to not stick to the machine that makes it, and itself, you may want to try your finish on it first, because it may fish-eye like crazy Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
