I'm from nothern metro-detroit area, and If I can fit it into my schedule, I know I'd be interested in learning more and getting tips, as I've only just started building rods.

I go to the MFFC Fly Fishing expo most every year in Warren and last year I attended a short demonstration put on by hookhack.com about making a fly rod. I took some of the advice from there, and picked up some parts, built my first rod this year, and have started on two more.

I've not been able to make it out yet, but every year in Holt there is a fly tying expo (http://www.fffglc.org/), and I've heard it has a "workshop" type of atmosphere where people just sit down work on flies, swap tips and ideas, etc. Sounds like a very fun day.

I know there is a "gathering" up in Grayling for bamboo rod builders every year (http://www.rodmakersatgrayrock.org), but a "rod building expo" or "rod building workshop" would definitely be fun.

Thanks
