I talked to a dist. for Envirotech awhile back and he told me that at least two of the currently popular thread finishes are just rebottled Envirotech. At least one is done on what he called a, large scale. I won't list names but if you call the factory you can probably get the same information that I did. The guy recommended the EX74 epoxy because it is very clear and designed for outdoor use. He said this is what they are selling to the rod coating industry.

years ago I built a rod with a coating just like that. I cant remember what it was called as it was roughly 15 years ago. It was a product I bought from walmart and was designed to coat bar tops etc.

15 years later I still use the rod and it has held up great....

I used envirotech a couple years ago on a table to that I put a puzzle on. It was in the direct sun and within 2 months it had yellowed to the point you couldn't see the pzzle. Now 2 years later the top surface is crazing and lifting. I think most of the rod finishes may be the same chemical they probably have more UV inhibitors in them.

More likely is that you just used the wrong product. Envirotech makes a lot of different epoxies and you have to choose the one for the purpose you plan to use if for. They offer epoxies with and without UV inhibitors and like their guy told me, one of the most popular epoxy finishes used by rod builders is their same product rebottled and relabled.

I've been using Envirotex Lite for years. My rods see a lot of Sun here in Florida, and I can't tell any difference between Envirotex, and the other "rod specific" epoxies I've used.
I have surf rods built over 10 years ago using Envirotex, and they still look great.
