I'm not sure if this is the right term, but I'm looking for Loomis blanks sold under another name. In other words, blanks that Loomis makes for "Company X that are marketed as "Company X's Premium Blanks." Or a source of seconds, blanks that for some reason do not meet the normal standards or have blemishes or something. I understand that there may be no warranty, but it's OK by me. I'm just looking for a couple of cheap but good blanks for my own personal use and to practice my new hobby with. Anyone know of of any such sources? TH Re: "Generic" Loomis blanks? Seconds? Blems?

How far into the female end should the male end fit on a tip over butt ferrule. I have a Cabelas blank that only goes a little over one inch into the female tip section. Thanks for any info Re: Ferrules

The distance of overlap varies from blank to blank and design to design. Obviously you need enough overlap for the sections to gain enough purchase on each other and support each other, but any more than that is not necessary. What I think I would do is to contact the manufacter and ask them what the recommended overlap for that particular blank is. Another thing you might do, is take a close look at the male section and see if you can find a light pencil mark on it. Some companies will mark the required overlap and then hand fit the ferrule to achieve it. If you see the mark, and the tip fits far enough down to meet it, you are probably okay. ........................... Re: "Generic" Loomis blanks? Seconds? Blems?

Dick, @#$%&, Thank you for the suggestions. I am just beginning, and have not even made a complete rod yet. I've only "tuned" and repaired factory rods so far. I got some rodbuilding supplies as a gift from a friend, and now I'm all revved up to build a rod, but my $$$ is a little light right now, so I was looking for a cheap way into the hobby. I'll just have to keep my eyes open for good deals! TH Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
