Looking to build a fast action #9 rod this winter for the saltwater. I fish a RPLXi 890 and a Loomis GL3 Mega #10. Have heard the action on the RPL+ is very good. Does any one have a idea on were to find one? Or recommend a blank with similar action but more affordable than an XP or GLX? Re: Need #9 RPL+ blank or similar?

Willie, I'm not sure but I believe that the Sage VPS is the same as the old RPL's. You might check with others. Look over their catalog as I'm not sure which models are available. Bruce Young Landing Gear Re: Need #9 RPL+ blank or similar?

The RPL/VPS series of blanks are nothing like the RPL+ series (other than they are the same color). The VPS/RPL blanks are heavier and slower in action. I have built 3 rods on RPL+ blanks, they are fast action rods (I love them), as well as very light in weight. If you want a fast action 9 wt. Sage, you might want to try to find a RPLX blank, this was the blank that the RPLXi replaced. The RPLX is a faster action rod. The only place I know of that has any of the higher line weight RPL+ blanks is a place in Canada called "The Green Highlaner" I think their web site is greenhighlander.com The last time I was on their site, they were still advertising RPL+ blanks. I hope this helps. P.J. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
