Reel repair questions

Rods and reels go together. If you folks have any questions about reel repair, let me know. The advise is free. Not out to advertise, just providing a service. May give up the business next year anyway and start fishing like everybody else does in their old age.

Dear Mike,
I have an ultralite spinning reel, that I constantly have to adjust the drag on. That is, I will set the drag to what I feel a 2lb test should have, after several cast, the drag becomes too much for the line. I adjust it again and it repeats. Would you have any idea what this problem could be?

Best regards,
Pablo

Pablo, sounds like you have one of the following problems:

1. You are missing a drag washer which allows the drag knob to protrude too deep in the drag washer cup. This will allow the edge of the drag knob to contact the spool and tighten down as the spool rotates.

2. You don't have the correct drag knob.

3. Metal drag washers are not installed properly with a slotted one on top.

Hope this helps.
