Aloha from Hawaii, Anyways I'm kinda a new to rod wrapping. I wrapped my first rod and had the finish come out with quite a few sags and drips. People I talk to say I need to get a drying motor. What is the correct speed? I've seen the speeds vary from 4rpm all the way up to 36 rpm. Can anyone help me? Is the speed of the motor a personal preference? Any insight would be much obliged. Thanks, Allan Re: finishing motors

I turn my rods at 6 rpms. Works great with flex coat. Re: finishing motors

Allan: The drying speed seems to be both personal preference and the speed of the small motors you can find. Really, the speed range has to be adequate so that the finish can self level and then gel - all while turning. Theranges you quoted are just fine. If you are having troubles finding motors that work well, may I suggest a vist to some of the vendors on this board. While most sell made up driers, one in Canada does not. He sells small 10 rpm motors that you can make into yourown drier. Sorry, the name eludes me right now. Doug Weber Weber Rod Works Re: finishing motors

The person I could not remember was Gordon Money. His shop is Rodbuilding Supplies and is a listed vendor on this board. I purchased a dandy 10 rpm a/c motor from him at the conclave. Doug Weber Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
