marking for guides 180 deg. /spline

What is a simple method of marking the blank along the axis that lines up with the guides? I go through gyrations when I am marking the flyrod blank to identify the center line for the guides. I use a spine finder to mark the blank on the spine. There must be a simple process of transferring this 180 degrees to the inside for the guides.
Thanks,
Jim

Gyrations - very funny.

What I do is chuck it into my lathe, and use the indexing pin. Other then that, you cvan take a pieceof tape, make one complete turn around the blank where you made the mark. Mark the spot on the tape where it makes one full rotation. Take off the tape, measure the distance, and mark the half way point (divide length by 2) on the tape. the tape now has 2 marks, the half way, and one ful turn. Put the tape back on the rod in the exact same spot - making sure one of your marks is on the spine mark. All you have to do now is turn the rod over and ... presto the other mark is right on the spine. No more gyrations for you.

When you have the blank in your spine finder, instead of making a mark on top, just take the pencil and turn it so the lead is perpindicular to the blank and underneath, and swipe it side to side on your tape a few times. You'll have a perfect line on the exact underside of the blank. No more having to transfer the mark from one side to the other.

Another way I do it is to mark the spine per normal and then run my circle template down to the spine mark. The template will have marks every 90 degrees. I put one of the marks on the spine mark and then mark the spine on the 180 degree mark on the template. After one mark is made you lay the blank in your lathe or hand wrapper and use the light glare as a straight line to place spine marks every so often on the blank.

Hope this helps,
Steve
