I am looking to replace my 10' 6# RPL+ with a lighter rod. The primary purpose for this type of fishing is both big river trout fishing and steelhead. The method of fishing is big indicator with a tandem fly rig and up to four split shot. The day trout fishing is made up of roll casting and mending, over and over again. The steelhead fishing is fairly straight forward; casting large steehead flies as a greased line technique and a swing, over and over. The above mentioned rod is getting to my shoulder (rotator cup problems) and I need to find a shorter rod, and hopefully lighter. Someone mentioned the Scott in a 9'6" 7# ARC configuration. Anyone familiar with this rod, and would it be suitable for the type of fishing mentioned. Thanks for the info.

It's not my cup of tea. I have found most of the Scotts I've cast or fished with to be a bit heavy and wobbly for my own taste. They also seem to cost a great deal compared with blanks that are at least as good if not better. I guess its all in what appeals to you.

I'd try a Loomis GL3 in that length and weight if it was me. They're not very expensive, pretty light and cast great. I own a 9'6" 8 weight GL3 and have really enjoyed using it.

Scott rods are okay but their not light!!!

I find the scott rods very easy to cast. They almost cast the line for you. But I would agree that they are a bit heavy in the longer models. I have cast a Loomis GLX in the 10' length and it is amazing. I know you would like that one but it will put a hurt on your wallet.

I have been pretty impressed with the st croix SCIV blanks, I know they have a 9'9" but not sure about a 10', ask anglers workshop. I like them better than the GL3, and a little less money too.

Besides looking at the SC4 in the 9'9" length, you may want to check into the new XMG 50 Esprit Series from Lamiglas. There is a 9' 6" - 7 wt. Fast action tip with powerful butt strength. It is a high modulus blank, with smaller diameter, for overall lighter weight. Another to consider would be a Sage XP.
