What is the most common size thread used for wrapping guides on graphite blanks? Also, does NCP thread eliminate the need to use cp on the thread to protect the color? Thanks in advance for the info. David Re: Thread Questions

I use only A nylon for guides. "A" looks a lot better than a larger size in my opinion. Yes NCP does prevent bleed through, but will change color slightly. It also looks like paint once the epoxy is applied. Billy Re: Thread Questions

depends on what size blank, if a light weight fly blank, you might cosider 00 size thread. Re: Thread Questions

Nothing is really set in stone, but generally size A is used for fly, and most all freshwater and light saltwater rods. Size D is usually found on the larger and heavier saltwater rods such as surf, boat and offshore trolling. A size thread offers good holding strength as you would have more winds per inch, but in cases where a tougher, more abrasion resistant winding is required, size D seems to get the nod. Occasionally you will find some in between sizes such as B and D. Depends upon the thread manufacturer and type of thread. For the most part, A and D are the most common sizes in use today. (Yes, 00 is used by those who wish a very fine thread wrap on light rods.) NCP does not require color preserver in order to remain as it appears on the spool, but it lacks the sparkle found with regular nylon used with or without CP. As the Billy stated, it looks like "paint" once finished. .................. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
