Is there any interest in trying some state wide rod builders get togethers? Would be nice to meet other builders in NC just to see each others work and chew the fat. Same could go for other states.

Maybe could get enough interest to pick a central spot in each state and cough up enough dough to rent a banquet room at a hotel or something. Obviously the dough would have to come first with a return guarantee if not enough dough came in.

Nothing fancy, just some tables, chairs, drinks and jawboning.

Not trying to cast any sort of negatives on the various seminars and conclaves and all, but it would be nice to just get together on a Saturday or Sunday with a dozen other rod builders and talk. Maybe some of us could post our locations here and see if others in our various areas would speak up and get something started?

That is what I was talking about. Nothing extravagant. Just simple and down to earth @#$%&'ing about rod building.

i live in asheville and would be interested. let me know where you are from. I would like to take it one step further. it is hard sometimes to get a group together but if i were in a town with a rod builder i would like to stop in to share ideas. i am sure there are many who come to asheville the would enjoy a couple hours of the same.

Well, I'm in High Point, NC and Mike Bolt, Tom Drury (Asheville), Buddy Owens, Larry Tysinger, Jim Reid, Sammy Mickel, and others are all within a few minutes drive. Somebody set something up and let me know. If you want to meet here at the shop I've got the room and the stuff. I suppose it just requires someone to take the initiative and get it started. Same goes for those who want to try and do this elsewhere.

I am in the distant planet of Canada, but am always interested in hearing from other rodbuilders whether by email or if planning to be in the area let me know and we can shoot the breeze about rodbuilding and pick my limited brain about the subject.

One thing I require is that I learn something from the rodbuilder who is in contact with me, and because I am also in business will probably offer you some kind of a deal that will be difficult for you to pass up.
(Wannna nice reel to go with that rod.....??? , stuff like that).

Time is the problem, especially in the summer months to get away, but I would always like to know who/where is offering any get-togethers for rodbuilders that are within driving distance. Maybe, if I can get my senses organized will at least have some Canadian connection with fellow rodbuilders wherever they may be.
I know of a few rodbuilders in Northern Minnesota, and it would be great to get together sometime at a central point to 'discuss' the craft.

Love to hear from any rodbuilder with interest.

I just moved to NC from Mobile, AL just 2 weeks ago. I thought I was the only one there at the time besides J&M and Smith Outdoors in Orange Beach.
