Is anyone using Titebond to glue birch bark rings together? I know that RM says to use epoxy but I was just wondering about the Titebond which I use exclusively for cork rings. Later, E.... Re: Birch Bark Rings

Titebond II or III should be okay. Good clamp pressure is important with any carpenter wood glue, of course.

I use Titebond III for all my cork and Birch bark, holds great and less of a problem turning later. Re: Birch Bark Rings

I use U40 rod bond for cork rings, attaching cork grips, reel seats, and butt caps / rings.
What "problem turning later" are you refering to Phil? Is the Titebond III easier to turn? Thanks, Andy K Re: Birch Bark Rings

Be careful in using tite bond and glueing up your rings on a steel mandrel. Tite bond is very corosive to steel, this is why I use Rod Bond on my rings. Re: Birch Bark Rings

Good point. If you do use Titebond, get those rings back off the mandrel within 24 hours or you'll have a rusty mess.

Eddie,
When working with birchbark, do you have to do anything with the white layer that is on the back of the rings, before use? I recently picked up a bunch of rings, but haven't built anything with them at this time. Thanks for your help. Roger Re: Birch Bark Rings

Per the article on RodMaker, yes, remove that surface material (white stuff). You'll find it will peel off fairly easily with the help of a knife.
