Dumb finish question

I know this is a real shot in the dark but I'll ask it anyway just in case. A few years ago I wrapped a rod on a white Lamiglas blank. I used white and blue thread with the white for most of the guide wraps. It was Flex Coat finish which came out very nice and smooth. I was pleased. Anyway, after a few months the finish turned a nice pecan brown color and really showed up against the white of the blank. I was sick after having done all that work. But I have continued to use it for a few years and it works well.

Now what I want to know is this. I am sick and tired of looking at that brown finish. Is there any way to get rid of the brown without completely stripping off the finish and wraps and starting over? I mean can I do anything to the finish to make it clear? Could I somehow peel off the finish off the wraps and have the wraps still there in good shape? What if I heated the finish and tried to peel it off the wraps? I did use color preserver if that makes a difference.

I think I know what the answer is if I want to rid it of the brown finish, but before I start taking everything off I just want to make sure there isn't something I don't know about or have overlooked. Thanks.

It is possible that if you carefully heat the finish (to about 120 degrees) it will peel off with the colour preserver keeping the wraps intact. It is worth a try and if it doesn't work you'll be where you thought you would be anyway- a complete rewrap.

I've only attempted this once and it worked out - you can get lucky.
