cutting guide feet?

While wrapping on some single foot spinning guides yesterday,my mind started to wander, as it often does. what I got to thinking about was that the feet on these guides were pretty darn long if you compared them to a double foot guide(one foot only). Has anyone ever experimented with shortening the guide foot? It looks to me you could cut some of them almost in half and still have plenty to work with. Or, would this cause some other problems? seems to me like another way to save weight. Re: cutting guide feet?

Yes you could do it and might even improve rod performance by some marginal amount. Just don't remove too much or guide stability and loosening could become a problem. No reason not to experiment though. One of the nice things about being able to wrap guides is that it is pretty easy to redo just about anything that didn't work out according to plan. .......................................
