single thread inlays

I'm sure what I am about to say (type) is already known by the professionals here but thought I'd pass it on anyway just in case. I've come up with my own way of doing single or double, triple..etc inlays. Instead of taping in the inlay thread next to the main wrap thread I just put the inlay thread in like a pull loop leaving a tag end to cut off later. I make my inlay, wrap over the second tag end and cut it off accordingly. Then go back to the first tag end and cut if the same as finishing off a wrap. No tape is needed to hold the inlay thread in place and you don't have to worry about pulling the thread from under the wrap because you have a lengthy tag end as a margin of error just in case you tug too hard on it. Maybe this will help some folks who are begining to do thread inlays (like me..lol).

The continuous wrap method is better, in that you don't have any tag to cut flush where the "inlay" begins.

Where can a person see pictures of the inlay method. I'm trying to picture this in my mind, but I can't figure out how you would get your main thread to continue on the other side of the inlay without it being seen.

July/August '98 RodMaker has a photo techniques column on how to do it.
