Duck Decoy cork blocks

A friend that carves duck decoys out of cork blocks dropped off a block for me to try. It's lighter than Andy Dear's cork blocks when cut in the same size (although not nearly so nice looking). It seems solid as cork rings and with fewer bad spots (and with lots less 'character' as well). Wondered if anyone else had tried these blocks and / or if there was any reason I shouldn't.
Thanks NT Re: Duck Decoy cork blocks

No reason not to try it. Give it a whirl. I suspect it'll work just fine.

Neil, I've used cork yoga blocks (simular to decoy cork) for grips before and there isn't a problem with using it for grips. It doesn't look like a regular cork grip was the only down fall. It's more of a ground cork and resins used to bind it together. I used it in some of my segmenting work and it worked great for that, the veneers break up the lines of the cork a bit.

Neil, thre is also black cork for duck decoys. Buy it, try it, and let us know what you think. Mike Joyce turned a few of us onto teh Duck docy cork right after teh High Point Show last year, MArk has beenon teh Yoga block stuff for a while and has done a lot with it. The only way you'll know is if you try it yourself and see how it works. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
