Turning these grips at high speed can result in heat that will soften some types permanently. I have done better turning at lower speeds with greater power and getting the cutting/shaping done quickly. Either way, you probably will find that you need to turn at least 1500 to 2000 RPM for best results. If you don't have enough power then you will have to turn at higher speeds to do the same job. .............................. Re: Lathe Speed

Agree on the heat thing. They firm up some after they cool off but never back to the original firmness. I think I am turning at about 1600rpm and it works well for me. I use a Stanley Surform file and then go to course sandpaper and then down a couple grades to smooth it out. Go easy if you use the Stanley file. It can really leave some pits and holes in there if you go too far. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
