Mel: After a long soak in boiling water did you try slow, steady, constant pressure? Re: Arrrrg -need to remove reel seat

I mounted the reel seat onto a reel stand and then put the reel stand into my vice. I used steady constant pressure to a point where I could feel the blank start to torque. I did not want to go too far and destroy the blank. I will try once more this evening and if it does not come off, then I will take the dremel to it this weekend when I have more time. Thanks. BTW, perhaps I am not soaking it long enough in the boiling water. How long should the soak be in terms of minutes or hours??? Re: Arrrrg -need to remove reel seat

Just a heads up.... Thanks for all the suggestions. I cooked that reel seat for what seems like over an hour and it would not budge. Finally took the dremel and cut the fixed hood off first. Then I cut along the reel seat. It still would not budge after inserting the screw driver in the cut and twisting. I could feel the epoxy breaking but the seat would not budge. Got the dremel out again and cut off the moveable hood and the locking rings. Still would not come off but was definitely loose. Finally had to cut along the reel seat on the opposite side and with some pulling and twisting it finally came off. That was one tough hombre there. No amount of cooking would have gotten that one off. I am out of #1 seats so I will put on the #2 seat this time. I think that the stella will fit better on the bigger seat anyways and will use drywall tape for the bushings. Whew!!!
Thank you for all the help and comments. I am sure that it would have normally work except for this bugger. lol Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
